When I first read this on a conservative website, I have to admit I cheered this woman on:

Susan Kuhnhausen, 51-Year Old Nurse Kills Intruder with Bare Hands
By Jack Kramer

Susan Kuhnhausen, a 51-year old nurse fought off an intruder with her bare hands. Kuhnhausen was returning from work and discovered an intruder armed with a hammer in her home and instead of becoming a victim strangled him with her bare hands, police reports have concluded.

"A violent struggle ensued, resulting in the death of the intruder and non life-threatening injuries to Kuhnhausen," said Officer Catherine Kent with the Portland Police Bureau.

AP reports that she then ran to a neighbor's house after the confrontation. Police found the body of Edward Dalton Haffey 59, a convicted felon with a long police record.

Police said there was no obvious sign of forced entry at the house when Kuhnhausen, an emergency room nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center, got home from work shortly after 6 p.m.

Under Oregon law people can use reasonable deadly force when defending themselves against an intruder or burglar in their homes.

Haffey, about 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, had convictions including conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, robbery, drug charges and possession of burglary tools. Neighbors said Kuhnhausen's size 5-foot-7 and 260 pounds - may have given her an advantage, wire service reports claim.

I'm very glad that Susan was able to protect herself and that, for once, a woman's size wasn't used against her. From what I've read she won't be charged, as it was self defense.

Great to hear she was able to defend herself. My weight has protected me too. I have had to defend myself too.
